Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Salvage and Reconstructed title?
A "Salvage" title means the vehicle was deemed a total loss by an insurance company and cannot be legally driven on public roads. A "Reconstructed" (or "R") title means the salvage vehicle has been fully repaired, passed a rigorous Pennsylvania Enhanced Vehicle Safety Inspection, and is now legal to drive and insure.
How does the Enhanced Inspection work in PA?
An Enhanced Inspection is much stricter than a standard annual state inspection. A specially licensed inspection mechanic verifies that all repairs were made using proper procedures and parts, checks structural integrity, and ensures the vehicle meets all original factory safety standards. Form MV-426B is completed during this process.
Can I get full coverage insurance on a Reconstructed title?
Yes, most major insurance providers will offer full coverage (liability, collision, and comprehensive) on a Reconstructed title vehicle. However, in the event of a total loss, the payout value is typically lower than a clean-title equivalent. It is always recommended to check with your specific insurance agent.
Do you handle the titling paperwork?
Yes. For vehicles we rebuild in-house, we coordinate the enhanced safety inspection and assist with compiling the necessary PennDOT paperwork (receipts, before/during/after photos, and the MV-426B form) to ensure a smooth transition from a Salvage to a Reconstructed title.
